Community Service Workers provide many types of assistance to people in the community. This program is designed to provide knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to administer and implement a variety of social assistance and community service programs.

They will participate in the delivery of a variety of community programs:

• Assisting clients with physical and mental problems as well as those in drug and substance abuse
• Counseling on child care
• Determine eligibility for welfare and health programs
• Help to determine and locate appropriate social service agencies such as those providing health care and physical and mental rehabilitation.

Facilities you may serve clients in are: hospitals; halfway houses; detoxification centres; residential care facilities; rehabilitation centres; correctional institutions; and homeless shelters and outpatient clinics. You will develop: in client assessment; proper referral making; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment; a full-range of computer skills, including keyboarding and current software application.
